Cases of endocarditis (n = 7) were high-grade, monomicrobial bacteremia caused by Aerococcus urinae. Patients with endocarditis were younger (66 vs 80 p < 0.05). The risk for endocarditis was higher if duration of symptoms was longer than 7 days (OR 105, 95% CI: 5-2271), or if there were septic emboli (OR 71, 95% CI: 3-1612).

Through searches in the laboratory databases we identify 16 iso- Aerococcus urinae (A.urinae) is a rare bacterium that can occur in a urinary tract infection, infective endocarditis, blood stream, and spinal disc infections. A. urinae is a gram-positive coccus occurring in tetrads or pairs, similar to the α-hemolytic Streptococci, which is commonly found in the urinary tract in children and elderly people. Aerococcus urinae may cause urinary tract infections, bacteremia, and endocarditis. No standardized susceptibility test methods or interpretive criteria have been proposed for this organism.

The median age was 74.3 years (12 males and 8 females). 2018-06-15 · Although for many years Aerococcus urinae was considered a urinary contaminant, increasingly it is recognized as an emerging pathogen capable of causing not only urinary tract infection (UTI) but also secondary bacteremia and endocarditis, among others.1 The proportion of patients with aerococcal bacteriuria with symptoms suggestive of UTI ranges from 55-98%.1 So A. urinae… May 28, 2020 Since its first classification, Aerococcus urinae has emerged as a human pathogen capable of causing urinary tract infections (UTI), as well as more invasive infections, including bacteremia, 1,2 endocarditis, 3,4 septicemia 5 and necrotizing soft tissue infections. 6-8 We became particularly interested in A. urinae as a member of the urinary microbiota—the polymicrobial Aerococcus urinae is an uncommon urinary tract pathogen that causes infections predominantly in elderly persons with local or general predisposing conditions. During a one-year study, the clinical features ofAerococcus urinae urinary tract infections (≥105 cfu/ml) were investigated in two large medical microbiology laboratories in the Netherlands. In this population, cardiac implanted electronical devices (CIED) are not uncommon, but despite the capacity of A. urinae to form biofilm in vitro, no cases of aerococcal CIED infections have been reported to date.

However, there are case reports of AU causing more serious infections, including bacteremia and endocarditis. In our case, AU lead to septicemia, a probable

Although the 2017-07-01 · Aerococcus urinae is a rare organism isolated from urine cultures. We present a case of an 80 year-old male with bladder cancer and multimorbidity who developed A. urinae infection.
